LEXUS GX
The Lexus GX is a Japanese mid-/full-size luxury SUV that is sold in North American and Eurasian markets under Toyota’s Lexus brand. The GX, built in Tahara, Aichi, Japan, has a 5-door body style and a strong body-on-frame chassis, which improves its durability and off-road capability. The GX’s front-engine, four-wheel-drive architecture provides both luxury and rugged capability, offering versatility for a wide range of driving conditions.

The Lexus GX shares its platform with the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, which provides the GX its well-known off-road capabilities.Lexus has produced the GX since 2002 and also markets it as the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado in some areas.
LEXUS GX GENERATIONS
FIRST GENERATION (J120; 2002)
Toyota manufactured the Lexus GX 470, also known as the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado (J120), between 2002 and July 2009 for the 2003-2009 model years. Shoichi Fujiyoshi designed it in 2000, and the vehicle is based on the Toyota F2 platform, which also serves as the foundation for the Toyota 4Runner (N210). The GX 470 had a powerful 4.7-liter 2UZ-FE V8 engine combined with a 5-speed A750F automatic transmission.
SECOND GENERATION (J150; 2009)
The Lexus GX 460 debuted in China at the Guangzhou International Automobile Exhibition in November 2009 and remained in production until November 2023, covering the 2010–2023 model years. Yuji Fujiwara designed the GX 460 in 2007, and Atsuichi Suga gave it a facelift in 2011. The GX 460 was built on the Toyota F2 platform and shared components with the Toyota 4Runner (N280). It offered two engine options: a 4.0-liter 1GR-FE V6 for the GX 400 in China and a 4.6-liter 1UR-FE V8 for the GX 460, both paired with a 6-speed A760F automatic transmission
THIRD GENERATION (J250; 2023)
The third-generation Lexus GX, marketed as the GX 550 and GX 550h, revealed its prototype on June 8, 2023, ahead of its sister model, the J250 Land Cruiser Prado. It entered production in November 2023 for the 2024 model year. This GX is built on the TNGA: GA-F platform and shares a close relationship with the Toyota Land Cruiser (J300), Lexus LX (J310), Toyota Tacoma (N400), and Toyota 4Runner. The GX 550h features a 2.4-liter T24A-FTS turbo hybrid inline-four engine paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission, while the GX 550 is powered by a 3.4-liter V35A-FTS twin-turbo V6 with a 10-speed “Direct Shift” automatic transmission.
LEXUS GX MODELS
In the United States, Lexus will offer the GX 550 in six trim levels: Premium, Premium+, Luxury, Luxury+, and the newly added Offroad and Overtrail+ variants. All versions will utilize the V35A-FTS 3.4-liter twin-turbocharged V6, producing 260 kW (349 horsepower) and 649 N⋅m (479 lb⋅ft) of torque.
LEXUS GX FEATURES
Lexus Link Multimedia provides a seamless in-car experience with an extra-large 14″ touchscreen and enhanced speech recognition via wireless Android Auto® or wireless Apple CarPlay smartphone connectivity. The newly created “Hey Lexus” voice assistant understands natural language and the context of comments like “I’m cold” and can even identify who is speaking.
Off Road Features: GX ‘Overtrail’ grade offers a suite of off-road features including a wider track, Multi-Terrain Select (MTS), Electronic-Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (E-KDSS) and Crawl Control. Rounding off the adventure package, the Overtrail comes with a Multi-Terrain Monitor and exclusive 18″ wheels with bespoke off-road tyres.
Towing and Payload: The GX has a towing capacity of up to 3,600 kg (8,000 pounds).
LEXUS GX SAFETY
Passengers in the GX can feel confident knowing that a powerful passenger safety cell and 8 SRS airbags, along with the Lexus Safety System+, protect them. This suite of driver support technology provides top-tier safety, including the Safe Exit Assist feature, which warns passengers if traffic is approaching from behind when they try to open their door.
Accident prevention functions: Along with identifying road users such as motorcycles, the improved Lexus Pre-Collision System can avert more potential crashes, such as left/right turns and cut-in traffic. It can also detect incoming traffic or crossing pedestrians when turning at a junction. Emergency Steering Assist improves collision avoidance.
Dynamic Radar Cruise Control:This system uses a millimetre-wave radar sensor and camera to detect the vehicle in front and maintain an appropriate distance. If the vehicle in front comes to a halt, the GX will stop too. When the vehicle moves off again, you will too. It quickly recognises traffic cutting in front and, in conjunction with Lane Tracing Assist, follows a more natural line through bends.
Road Sign Assist (RSA) identifies traffic signs and informs the driver via the multi-information display. Dynamic Radar Cruise Control adjusts the car’s speed based on the RSA-recognized speed limit.
The GX features an Obstacle Anticipation Assist system and innovative Proactive Driving Assist with Active Driving Assist technology, which monitor road users and objects ahead, proactively controlling the brakes and steering to maintain a safe distance.Furthermore, Deceleration Assist helps you release the accelerator before a corner or a car in front, resulting in smoother and safer deceleration.
